How
to solve the repeating character problem caused by defected Microsoft
security update (KB 824141)
Symptoms: When you try to enter anything in the "Item ID" or "Description" field, the first character
you type will repeats itself preventing you from typing anything else.
For example, if you try to enter the word "box", the entire
field will be filled with letters "b", such as "bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb".
Cause: This problem is caused by a defective software update released by Microsoft on October 15, 2003.
This behavior affects systems running Windows NT, 2000, XP or 2003 with
security update 824141 installed.
Solution: This problem can be
easily fixed by uninstalling the security update from your system. This
small update was designed to fix a very specific and obscure security
loophole in Windows NT/2000/XP that might be used by hackers.
Unfortunately, this update did more bad than good and can be safely
removed without any negative effects on your system. To remove the it, please follow these steps:
- Go to "Start - Settings - Control
Panel"
- In the Control Panel, double-click on
"Add/Remove Programs"
- When the Add/Remove Programs window
appears, locate a program named
Windows Hotfix - KB824141 and select it by clicking on it
- Press the "Add/Remove" or
"Change/Remove" button and follow the instruction to
remove this update
- You might be asked to restart your
computer to complete the uninstall process
- Once you have restarted your computer,
QuickInvoice should behave properly again.
